Check out this quote from the linked article:

Democrats, including Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, have urged the White House to release "in their entirety" any documents written by Roberts.
Interesting how John Kerry believes that Roberts should fully disclose all documentation so that he can be considered for a position on the supreme court. Obviously he doesn't however feel that it is a requirement before becoming the POTUS.

Just goes to show what hypocrites Democrats are.

Why is Roberts' membership in this organization such a big deal? Here is a statement of purpose from the Federalist Society's web page:

  • Law schools and the legal profession are currently strongly dominated by a form of orthodox liberal ideology which advocates a centralized and uniform society. While some members of the academic community have dissented from these views, by and large they are taught simultaneously with (and indeed as if they were) the law.
  • The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservatives and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal order. It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.
  • The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities. This entails reordering priorities within the legal system to place a premium on individual liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law. It also requires restoring the recognition of the importance of these norms among lawyers, judges, and law professors.
  • In working to achieve these goals, the Society has created a conservative and libertarian intellectual network that extends to all levels of the legal community.

Why is this so controversial? What would be controversial is if President Bush would have nominated someone to the Supreme Court who held membership in a communist organization. The truth of the first point of this list is widely known and accepted, even by liberals. The second statement includes "it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be." Why is this such a surprise? Didn't the president say he was going to nominate someone who would not legislate from the bench? That is exactly what that phrase means (for the slow minded liberals in the crowd).

The only reason why Robert's membership in this society is an issue is that the liberals are afraid that the stacked deck they've created in the Supreme Court is in jeopardy. They've worked so hard to make this into a country where some dumb ass can sue a restaurant because they were too fucking stupid to know that coffee might be hot and win. Where women can murder their children because having them would inconvenient and where the Ten Commandments can't be displayed in a public building but this shit can be!

Let's see if can put this in small simple words so that the liberals can understand... "You lost! Get over it! It's our turn now to do to you what you did to us."
