Here We Go Again!
Remember the old useless assault weapon ban that did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to reduce crime? Remember how they whined and cried when their pet violation of the constitution was allowed to whither and die on the vine? Well they're trying to resurrect it on steroids. The Free Republic has the full text of the new bill. Here is a full list of every explicitly banned weapon:
- AK, AKM, AKS, AK-47, AK-74, ARM, MAK90, Misr, NHM 90, NHM 91, SA 85, SA 93
- VEPR
- AR-10
- AR-15, Bushmaster XM15, Armalite M15, or Olympic Arms PCR
- AR70
- Calico Liberty
- Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle or Dragunov SVU
- Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, or FNC
- Hi-Point Carbine
- HK-91, HK-93, HK-94, or HK-PSG-1
- Kel-Tec Sub Rifle
- M1 Carbine
- Saiga
- SAR-8, SAR-4800
- SKS with detachable magazine
- SLG 95
- SLR 95 or 96
- Steyr AUG
- Sturm, Ruger Mini-14
- Tavor
- Thompson 1927, Thompson M1, or Thompson 1927 Commando
- Uzi, Galil and Uzi Sporter, Galil Sporter, or Galil Sniper Rifle (Galatz)

- Olympic Arms OA
- TEC-9, TEC-DC9, TEC-22 Scorpion, or AB-10
- Uzi
- Armscor 30 BG
- SPAS 12 or LAW 12
- Striker 12
- Streetsweeper
- a folding or telescoping stock
- a threaded barrel
- a pistol grip
- a forward grip
- a barrel shroud
- a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds
They don't stop there either. Any semiautomatic pistol that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine becomes illegal if it has any of the following features:
- a second pistol grip (which is already regulated, see my rant here)
- a threaded barrel
- a barrel shroud
- the capacity to accept a detachable magazine at a location outside of the pistol grip
- a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds
Not wanting to leave any stone unturned, the following makes a semiautomatic shotgun illegal:
- a folding or telescoping stock
- a pistol grip
- the ability to accept any detachable magazine
- a fixed magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds
- a revolving cylinder
For those who are not weapon savvy; when it mentions semiautomatic it does not mean we're talking about a machinegun. A machinegun is called "full automatic". Which means if you squeeze the trigger and hold it, it will fire bullets until it runs out of bullets or you release the trigger. Semiautomatic on the other hand means that you have to squeeze the trigger once for each bullet that gets fired, but the gun loads the next round for you.
Now to add insult to injury, read the text and see if you can find any language that amounts to a grandfather clause. What's a grandfather clause you ask? A grandfather clause says that any of these items owned prior to the enactment of the law are exempted. In other words, because there isn't a grandfather clause, if you own any of these guns the day this law takes effect you will be a criminal subject to 10 years in federal prison.
Do you recall all the feigned indignation the libs were throwing around about the Patriot Act infringing on our constitutional rights? One could have perhaps taken them somewhat seriously if it weren't for their abysmal record of infringing on this constitutional right. Either you support all the rights or you're just being a hypocrite. In short, they lied about being concerned about infringement on our rights. They were simply trying to inflame the masses just to deliver the reins of power back into their greedy hands and if you believed them, you were stupid enough to buy into their lie.
So you don't own any guns and you're wondering why you should care, here's a quote from Paul Harvey that expresses the situation succinctly:
In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control.
- From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control.
- From 1915-1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938.
- From 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally ill, and others, who were unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935.
- From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964.
- From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970.
- From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956.
- From 1975 to 1977, one million "educated" people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
That places total victims who lost their lives because of gun control at approximately 56 million in the last century.
Since we should learn from the mistakes of history, the next time someone talks in favor of gun control, find out which group of citizens they wish to have exterminated.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed, a program costing the government more than $500 million dollars.
- The results Australia-wide; Homicides are up 3.2%, assaults are up 8%, and Armed robberies are up 44%. In that country's state of Victoria, homicides with firearms are up 300%.
Over the previous 25 years, figures show a steady decrease in armed robberies and Australian politicians are on the spot and at a loss to explain how no improvement in "safety" has been observed after such monumental effort and expense was successfully expended in "ridding society of guns."
It's time to state it plainly; Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws only affect the law-abiding citizens.
In other words, if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns! Please contact your senators and representatives now to voice you opposition to this attempt to erode our civil rights!
