Hypothetically Thinking

A friend and I were discussing the far-reaching desires the left has been tossing out in regards to gun control lately. The friend then suggested that if Diane Feinstein's over-reaching proposition (it really is shameless how they'll exploit a tragedy for every last thing they can get.) were passed, that it would result in new civil war.

That got me to thinking.  If there were such a hypothetical uprising, the split would fall very much along political lines. It would be left versus right. Now, if we start protracting demographics, where do those folks live? Well the leftists live primarily in dense urban areas and the right lives predominantly in the rural areas. Sure there's your odd outliers, but by and large that's how it breaks down.

During the civil war it broke down very much along those same lines... The agrarian south versus the industrialized north. The industrialization of the north is primarily what allowed the north prevail. They were able to crank out more cannon and rifles. Now however comes the big but... (...and this is where those who claim the Civil War as a corollary are incorrect) If we compare things from now to then the division urban to rural is far more stark.

A modern city requires a far larger expanse of rural land to provide the food, power and water to support it than a Victorian era city. The majority of that land is presumably (based upon the prior assumption of demographics) populated with their rural "enemies".

So then by extension we'd have large numbers of pampered urban leftists who can no longer drive down to the local Whole Foods to buy their arugula and tofu and stop at Starbucks for a Joe, suddenly being forced to eat their cats in darkness and wash it down with a few drops of water scavenged from the toilet tank (or worse).

During the civil war, there were enough rural areas encompassed in the north to support the population of urban areas (although not without some noticeable hardship), but the cities these days have grown far larger and far more densely populated and therefore they require a likewise far larger supporting rural area.

These facts are something our smug, elitist, urban brethren have not thought about when they point their manicured finger at us in derision and snidely call us "rednecks" who live in "fly-over country" in that signature, liberal nasal whine.

We've already seen how adverse to hardship these people are. In WWII we lost well over 10,000 men on a single day (June 6th '44) and still we stood fast and fought on. In Iraq, we hadn't hardly lost a dozen fighting men before they were screeching "retreat!!!". Rural folk just tend to be far more hearty by nature. We farm and hunt and fish...

So how much deprivation do you think it will take for them to cry uncle? Or am I thoroughly off base with my assessment of the hypothetical situation?

Oh and one final point which I forgot. The bulk of that industrialization that existed in the urban areas during the Civil War that facilitated the north's victory... Well that's been all shipped overseas to China or other such low cost labor areas and they are unlikely to extend more credit to a disintegrating United States.

I'd be interested in hearing your theories an speculation about such a hypothetical uprising.

This entire article is of course composed in such a way as to ridicule this legislator's proposition. At what point in our history did it become ignorant or silly to prepare for inevitable calamity? Somehow it is now in vogue to blunder your way through life ill-prepared for whatever may occur and then when calamity does rear its ugly head, we whine and complain that the government should provide for our every need. If more people would have thought this way during Katrina the death toll would have been far lower... but no, we'll just sit in our homes as the water rises and blame the government for our own laziness.

The CDC has suggested that Americans should prepare for a zombie apocalypse... Of course they were not intending to insinuate that there actually will be a "zombie apocalypse", but rather if you were prepared for such a fictitious catastrophe you'd be well prepared for any catastrophe that might come your way.

I personally have been through 4 hurricanes (including Katrina), 2 earthquakes, a tornado and a riot. My preparations served me well in each and every one of those calamities. It allowed me to live through them in relative comfort, feed myself and my family and defend ourselves. Ridicule me and those like me all you want. We'll be the ones eating, surviving and laughing last.

Liberals of course decry this man's ideas as fear mongering, but "global warming", that's of course real science.

Originally a post was made to the internet supposedly showing that an evil banker paid a waitress a 1% tip for a $133 meal bill and scrawled the appellation "get a real job" on the credit card receipt. This was being used to bolster the whole Occupy movement 1% vs. the 99% class warfare scam. Of course now the restaurant has released the real receipt showing that it was all photo shopped an falsified. This is how these people operate and these are the tactics they are gearing up to use against Mitt Romney. That is precisely why we should throw them a right hook and nominate Rick Santorum.

Article: Marine to serve no time in Iraqi killings case

I've always believed it appropriate that SSG Wutterich not serve any time. What he did in that deadly moment was attempt to protect the lives of himself and his fellow marines. His squad had come under attack and suffered casualties and at a time like that you can't be second guessing your instincts. Is it unfortunate that civilians were killed? You bet, but where does the blame lie, with the troops attempting to defend themselves or with the terrorists who decided to place those civilians in the crossfire? I contend it lies with the terrorists.

Why pay over four times as much into the coffers of that organization and what tangible good has that investment bought us? In this time of harrowing budget over-runs we should seriously do a cost/benefit analysis.

Article: Wis. governor fights recall with out-of-state cash

Let's face it, unions serve no practical modern purpose. Sure they had a time and place where they were essential... back in the robber baron era. But any valid cause that they fought for then is now firmly ensconced in federal law and bureaucracies. I mean OSHA, minimum wage laws, etc... The only purpose unions serve now is to ensure their own existence by perverting our political system with money extorted from those they claim to serve. Unions have scorched or governmental budgets at every level from local to federal. They've also driven manufacturing jobs abroad to more reasonable labor markets. If you've met a high school graduate that can not find a job, thank your local union representative. Why should a worker who does not wish to be a member of a union be forced to pay union dues if they want to work in a unionized shop? Why should they be forced to support the political candidacies of candidates they do not agree with? Liberals like to tout "free choice" when it comes to murdering the unborn, but not in the workplace.

Allot of people don't know it, but we are one coronal mass ejection away from returning to the Victorian age! The sun runs on activity cycles that span 11 years. The sun varies during this cycle from mild mannered to tempestuous. It is precisely those tempestuous periods that can quite conceivably cause us harm. In 1859 we were struck directly by a coronal mass ejection... a jet of hot gases, energy and radiation thrown off the surface of the sun. These ejections occur quite regularly, more-so during the high activity periods than during the low activity periods. If one of these ejections occurs in line with the Earth and we are struck by it as it passes by us, our planet absorbs a large bolt of that energy. In 1859 when it happened the world was quite a different place. There were no electronic devices, satellites and power lines. If such an impact occurred today, power lines would serve as a huge antenna soaking up the energy from the passing wave and directing it into the electrical grid and any thing plugged into it. This surge of power would destroy large portions of the power transmission grid and any consumer electronics exposed to it. Satellites would be instantly struck silent. Imagine it, a world with no electricity, no television, no phones or cell phones, no computers and no radios... Imagine that world... Imagine having only days or hours of warning before it struck. How would you fare in such a world?

A Little Family History For Memorial Day

Some of you may know that I am related General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (he's my great great...). Some time ago a movie named Gettysburg focused on his actions at the battle of Gettysburg on top of Little Round Top, an action for which he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

It is this kind of selflessness that is recognized on this weekend. Take a moment and reflect on the sacrifices that have been offered up at the altar of freedom. What have you done to deserve those sacrifices?

There are so many these days who are fixated on the things that they feel they are entitled to. In truth, you are entitled to nothing. This nation owes you nothing. YOU owe this nation. You owe it your vigilance. You owe it your toil and if need be your blood. We have been so lucky for so long that we easily forget that. We become concerned with questions like "How should I pay for health care?" and some leap to the conclusion that it would be easiest if such things were just handed to them. Of course it would be easy if that would happen, but such thinking isn't very realistic now is it? The answer to such a dilemma is rarely as gratifying as getting something for nothing. The answer is that we ourselves must be prepared for such eventualities. We must save and put aside a bit for rainy days.

The problem is that we are now pursuing such unrealistic ideas at break neck speed. The ideals that our fore-bearers fought and died to preserve are being discarded like so much worthless chaff all in a pursuit to attain the unattainable, something for nothing.

Look at the action portrayed in those four videos. You see men dying left and right. Ask yourself why are they standing there and putting themselves in such a lethal situation. Do you think that they are doing it to get free health care? Or, are they doing in to preserve the nation and freedom?

Now ask yourself the greatest question. Would you give up your life to preserve freedom for your friends and family? If not, then why? The only reasons I can picture are either selfishness or cowardice. Which applies to you?

Ye Shall Hear of Wars and Rumours of Wars

I have been hearing grumblings for sometime now and I am growing concerned. Am I the only one hearing this and seeing this? To begin with there has been an absolute run on guns and ammunition. I have called every gun store within 100 miles. There is absolutely NO 7.62x39 ammunition to be had. For those who are a little less informed on such things, those are the rounds fired from an AK 47 or an SKS. They are probably the most produced rifle rounds on the face of the planet with the exception of the ubiquitous but anemic .22 Long Rifle. Trips to near by stores that carry ammunition reveal them to be bare of anything but the weird stuff and the weak stuff. Gun sales are booming, one of the few segments of the economy flying in the face of the recession. Friends that work for gun shops report sales volumes ranging from 300% to 1000% over March last year. Most have attributed this rush on guns to Obama's abysmal record on gun control. But I'm wondering if there isn't more afoot.

A Russian professor, Igor Panarin has prognosticated the dissolution of the United States by 2010. He foresees the country ending up divided into 6 separate parts.

Then, for the first time in my life I hear commentators on syndicated news channels seriously entertaining the thought of revolution occurring in the near future. (See here, here and then here).

As if that isn't good enough, politicians are getting into the act. Congresswoman Michele Bachman (R) of Minnesota had this to say:

"I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us ‘having a revolution every now and then is a good thing,’ and the people – we the people – are going to have to fight back hard if we’re not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States."

- AND -

"I’m a foreign correspondent on enemy lines and I try to let everyone back here in Minnesota know exactly the nefarious activities that are taking place in Washington."

Even the libs are saying it (even though their reasons for it are nuts). Representative Jay Inslee of Washington, speaking about the permanent removal of the moratorium on offshore oil drilling, had this to say:

"We are off the Pacific coast, and there would be a civil war. There would be something like a secessionist movement if there was a serious attempt to remove the moratorium."

So in other words, if any attempt was made to "drill baby drill" the libs would get really upset and hold a little "secessionist movement"... No doubt there would be lots of tofu, patchouli, Birkenstocks, Che pictures and kaffiyehs.

A Contrast in Parenting

Well, it would appear that the Thomas Nelson Inc., a Christian publisher has decided to shelve Lynne Spears' book on parenting. Lindsey Noble, spokesperson for the publisher refused to acknowledge whether the decision was based upon the recent revelation that 16 year old Jamie Lynne Spears, sister of Britney Spears and Nickelodeon TV star was pregnant.

Look, Mrs. Spears, what exactly makes you think that you can speak with any authority on the subject of parenting? You've raised two absolute train wrecks that have done nothing but provide a pivotal role model for the bimbofication of teen aged girls everywhere. On another note, who at that publishing company ever thought this was a good project? I wonder if that person is sitting at the unemployment office right about now.

When asked how she got pregnant, actress Jamie Lynne Spears replied "I kept a tellin' uncle Bubba to git off'n me 'cause he was a squishin' mah cigarettes but he wouldn't." Ok, so perhaps that isn't an exact quote, but I'm sure she said something just as classy.

Now lets contrast Lynne Spears with Frederick Dominguez.

Last Sunday after church Mr. Dominguez and his three children drove into the northern California wilderness to pick a Christmas tree. The family became disoriented while trying to pick just the right one and could not find their way back to their vehicle. Dominguez and his family managed to find a culvert to shelter in as a winter storm descended on the area. The family was found and rescued just as another storm threatened to bury them under an even deeper blanket of snow.

Mr. Dominguez is quoted as telling his 18 year old son, "Son, I would tell you what I bought you for Christmas if I thought we weren't going to make it".

The contrast between Mr. Dominguez and Mrs. Spears is stark.

One parent has tried to profit off of her children any way she could and in the end has done nothing but contribute a pair of dilapidated emotional derelicts to the moral dross that is pop culture.

The other parent was spending quality time with his children and when calamity arose, Mr. Dominguez used his head and provided a strong example of leadership for his children. His children I'm sure will be stronger people for their experience and due to the involvement of this parent in their lives.

Kudos Mr. Dominguez.

Davey Crockett Lives On

A 5 year old Arkansas boy, Tre Merritt recently netted a 445 Lb. black bear while out hunting with his grandfather. This is quite a feat of marksmanship for such a young man. Beyond that a 445 Lb. Black bear is quite a trophy animal regardless of the hunter's age. It turns out that this youngster is the great great ... grand son of Davey Crockett.

Well the ignorance of liberals is on full display for all to see just like it was in the case of the young pig hunter that I posted about some time ago.

"When your 5 years old and you sit up in a tree with your "Paw Paw" waiting on some unexpecting animal so you can blow its brains out: You now your a redneck.They probably celebrated by teaching him how to drink shine out of a jug and then make a corn cob pipe.I can hear the banjo's playin'now!"

"I hope his white trash, loser father/grandfather are really proud of themselves. What a great thing to teach a kid! Climb up into a hunting stand, and kill whatever poor animal happens to wander by you. I hope Karma kicks in, and these morons find themselves face to face with bear, with no gun in their hands, one day soon. And, kudos to the media for glorifying killing innocent animals for fun! I'm sure little Billy Bob Ray will have lots of fun with his new bearskin rug! Does it scare anyone besides me that a 5 year old can kill with no guilt at all? Scares me for the future."

"Has Arkansas not evolved at all? To show this as a accomplishment is amazing. I will not watch a station that airs this as a personal interest story. WHERE IS THE GAME AND FISH COMMISSION? THIS KID NEEDS TO BE JAILED!"

Look morons. Your forefathers hunted to feed their families. Many these days in rural locations still hunt to feed their families.

Sure, you believe that mankind has evolved beyond a need to hunt. That fits right in with your belief that mankind has evolved into some finer being in so many other ways. Let me tell you this though... Evolution does not occur on the timescale of human history. Being the supposed educated elite, you should know that. You have mistaken a transient time of plenty for a permanent situation. Even so, the "finer", latte slurping, metrosexual, effete, hybrid driving pansy that you are trying to turn everyone into is useless in any environment. Beyond that your beliefs regarding this supposed evolution are just that... beliefs. As such, they are grounded in just as much science as anyone else's religious beliefs... you know the ones you guys discount out of hand.

Hunting is a vital survival skill that some of us teach our children. Those who do believe that it is better for our children to be able to survive not only in times of plenty but also during those inevitable times of famine that you mistakenly believe to be a permanent thing of the past. I sure hope you do not expect my children to set a place at their tables for your ill-prepared whelps when that famine eventually does come.

What am I talking about... These people are free-loading liberals. Of course they'll expect to feast at my children's table.

What? You do not believe that an impending famine awaits? What do you think will happen to food production if your pet global warming scenario happens to come true? Me and mine, we can swim can you?
